Institutional Advancement Manager

Job description
Heartland Animal Shelter is looking for an Institutional Advancement Manager (IAM) to take our fundraising and marketing efforts to the next level. The IAM will play a crucial role in building relationships with donors and other stakeholders in order to drive support that will fund Heartland’s initiatives. The ideal candidate would be passionate about our mission and vision and be able to communicate our work  to donors in a way that results in a genuine interest in supporting us.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in business or related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising
  • Proficiency working with digital marketing tools such as Constant Contact
  • Proficiency of Microsoft Office Suite programs and Google Workspace
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality

Responsibilities include:

  • Under the direction of the Executive Director, coordinates and executes a successful, ongoing development plan to achieve revenue goals
  • Develops and maintains donor relationships with individuals, foundations, professional groups, large and small businesses
  • Identifies and cultivates major gifts, strategically creating a pipeline of major gift prospects through targeted outreach, and leveraging current constituents and their networks
  • Leads and supports the identification and moves management (qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship) of revenue opportunities
  • Emphasizes retention, cultivation, and stewardship, with attention to new individual (especially mid to high level donors), family, foundation and corporate supporter acquisition
  • Writes grant proposals, appeal letters, donor communications, newsletters, and reports
  • Articulates Heartland’s Mission and Vision via multiple communications
  • Manages and executes fundraising campaigns, assists with execution of special campaigns
  • Strategically and consistently utilizes CRM data management tool to maximize efficient and effective moves management of donor pipeline
  • Supports the Executive Director with the Major Gift Initiative, stewardship, donor meetings and follow up
  • Supports the Development Committee and the Heartland Young Professionals board with executing successful fundraising events by assisting with sponsorship acquisition, curating attendee lists, and assisting with event follow up.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in business or related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising
  • Proficiency working with a CRM or fundraising database, Experience with Little Green Light a plus!
  • Proficiency working with digital marketing tools such as Constant Contact and Survey Monkey
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • You have worked on a fundraising campaign and have previous experience soliciting gifts

  • You are a people person who enjoys networking, making connections, and nurturing relationships
  • You are proactive, motivated to work independently, and excited to actively seek out new prospects and opportunities for the organization
  • You are organized and can meet deadlines, juggle different projects and priorities at the same time, and pay careful attention to details
  • You are a researcher who likes digging for information, looking for patterns, and designing clear systems to track this information
  • You are responsive and can adapt to new information and changes, and communicate these changes with others
