Anja

Dear Heartland, I wanted to let you know, I adopted Anja back on January 3, 2017 and to my surprise, she and I turned out to be the perfect match for each other. I spoiled her every chance I could and showered her with so much love, kindness, comfort and well needless to say….she was my best friend for 4 blissful years. Unfortunately and very unexpectedly, she passed away peacefully lying beside me on April 16, 2021 from a mini stroke, for which her body was unable to recover from. I miss her terribly, but I know in my heart, she’s with God’s creatures now, playing and chasing to her heart’s content. I want to thank your Heartland staff for connecting us when you did, I’m truly so grateful. I also wanted to pass along this message about one of your own, and just know what a great organization for rescues you guys truly are…thank you ❤️

Samuel (fka. Panda the Chi)

Hi there! I like your Happy Tails series and wanted to do one for my rescue that I got from you guys last summer.

I’ve had Samuel (originally named Panda the Chi) for about nine months now, and I can’t explain how happy this little guy makes me. He is 5 pounds of attitude, wit, and 1000x his weight in love! It took him a bit to get comfortable with his new life in my apartment, and we had to do some training with a specialist, so he could learn how to be a little more open to and a lot less scared of new people and situations (life can be so scary when you’re this small!) but he’s doing amazing now and is such a good boy! Sometimes Sam will sit on my lap and just gaze up at me for minutes on end– it’s the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen– and I like to think it’s just him being so amazed to have found me too and never wanting to let me go because we’re so happy together! And I really don’t think I would have been able to get through the worst of quarantine, particularly this past winter, without my tiny shadow always beside me.

Adopt

When you adopt from a no-kill shelter, you save two lives. The animal you adopt and the one that replaces him.
